the morning of a new day
have you heard josh garrels' music? if not, today is the day, my friend.
winn and our friend evan introduced me to him on ash wednesday of all days, and his song entitled "zion and babylon" became my soundtrack for lent. have a listen:
lent was a ruthless teacher for me this year, and i have been anticipating easter, hoping for a little light to break through my darkness. easter sunday came and went with no visible change, but over the course of this last week, there has been a shift, the slow dawning of a new day within and without. this brings me back to josh garrels.
his song "decision" has become my easter season soundtrack (i'm a one-song-at-a-time kind of girl). i hit replay over and over, and i turn the volume way up so that the bass is thumping (usually as I pick seth up from preschool and am in a sea of minivans, honda pilots, and suburbans, soccer moms everywhere, everywhere. i am one, too, so i mean no disrespect.) and i sing at the top of my lungs while--i am not ashamed to say--i get my groove on, baby. it's a celebration.
i love these lines especially:
i've been running through the night
towards the light, of the sun
now i'm free
bring a little love for me
i'm a dork and don't know how to post this particular song here, but if you download it from itunes, i think it's a dollar well spent.

Josh Garrels is awesome...I haven't heard a single song of his that I don't like- my personal favorite is called "communion" I'm glad to hear that you've found him and that you enjoy his music!
Awesome. Thanks, Miska!
Come on, you've got to be kidding me?? Copying my blog post?
Miska- wow, Winn's right- is this copyright infringement? I think it's just a case of psychic lovin' goodness between you two.
I read Winn's blog too and got the album b/c of his recommendation, but I'll say on your blog here that I love this music! thanks for sharing, and I'll be sure to pass along anyone new too-
hope you guys are doing great.
Ben
You know you can groove, girl. And I always say - if it's not loud, it's not worth listening to. Ok, well I don't always say that... but sometimes (lots of times) you just gotta turn it up, belt it out, and feel it in the pit of your soul. If you can't see the light, sometimes you just have to follow the sound. (oh, and I also highly recommend playing the drums on the steering wheel... it's a classic move)
Andy: so glad to hear you like Josh Garrels, and I can't wait to listen to "Communion."
Andy and Justin: man, did I miss you guys on Easter. The celebration just wasn't the same.
Winn: puh-lease. You wish, sucka.
Ben: Just for the record (not that it matters or anything), but I posted first. But you are right, it is a case of psychic lovin' goodness. I like the way you put that. By the way, congrats on becoming a daddy.
Jules: I know you are practically a professional car singer. =) I love that about you. And I'll definitely play the drums on the steering wheel...as soon as I can get over the fear that the air bag is going to explode out at me if I hit the steering wheel too hard.
Sucka? You wish.
I feel I just can't pass up the chance to throw a little fuel on this one...

OK, Mr. Techno-Wizard Man (and I do say that with all sorts of respect, particularly since you've come to my rescue numerous times):
There is no post time rss feed for when ideas were forming in my crafty little brain...
Thank you, Justin. Truth prevails.
Winn, it's almost sad, really, the way you simply cannot let this go.
Brilliant, Miska, brilliant.
And with that, I concede my infringement on your high and lofty blogging prowess and slink into the corner.
I miss you guys...and I love the banter and my new best friend Josh. Okay, well, maybe not best friend. But he does live in NC, so we are practically neighbors. Anyway, LOVE the music. And Miska, no need to fear about the air bag - Stuart drums on our steering wheel very hard ALL THE TIME. Playing paradiddles or whatever the heck they are called and real drum stuff...so play and sing away. ( I cannot play the drums because I cannot play the steering wheel drum and drive...so I will keep to the singing.)
We had Josh play at our Artist @ the Fountain sometime last year in LA. It was a meaningful concert and people came from all over to hear him.
I'm with Shannon, I will leave the steering wheel drumming to those able to do two things at once without fear for the safety of all around me. But, I would be much more concerned with honking the horn drumming than I would with the airbag exploding. :-)
I always love reading your posts, Miska. You make me think and search inside myself. That is a very good thing. And, I forgot Winn has a blog...I should bookmark that one, too.
I find it beautiful how God can be so intentional with our lives, especially through music. I totally replay a song over and over again, and thought I was the only one who did so. I'm in good company. A friend gave me a CD today that was full of Josh's music, and I was very happy to read your post and excited to be introduced to his artistry. Keep rockin' out!
